AMA Recap: Swash meets CoinValue

The CoinValue Community was eager to learn more about Swash and how its solution helps people with more freedom and control over their data.

Swash’s CMO engaged with the community, answering all questions about Swash’s technology, browser extension, First Wave Solutions, milestones, roadmap, data collection, and more.

Keep reading for the full AMA transcript to learn more about Swash.

What differentiates Swash from every other platform? And, how will users, also those who are new in the crypto space, be able to partake in this ecosystem?

Chloë:
Great question! Swash’s mission is to rebalance the data economy by bringing value back to everyday internet users. There aren’t many solutions out there today that offer this ‘better than free’ model where people can start using it straight away to earn from the value of their data. Also, to kind of answer both questions there, we prioritise having an easy-to-use solution so people who are new to crypto or not as confident with technology are able to participate too. People simply install the browser application to start earning, it takes just a few minutes.

Could you please tell us more about the Swash app and the browser one can use?

Chloë:
The Swash app is currently available in the form of a browser plug-in. When people install Swash, they join what we call a Data Union, which means their data is captured and then pooled together with the other members of the Data Union. Then, when the data is purchased, the profits it generates are distributed back out to those members who contributed their data. It’s available on all major browsers and we have 60K+ users already!

We have now taken this success and will expand Swash into a universal data ecosystem that brings even more value back to users but also developers and businesses too. You can find out more about what that looks like here: https://swashapp.io/token

Talking about data collection, which of the data precisely? Does it include one’s personal information?

Chloë:
The full list of data captured by the application can be found in the privacy policy within the extension onboarding process. It’s basically clickstream and search data and it varies depending on each website. For example, from Amazon, it includes things like what you search for, the list of results shown, whether you add an item to your wishlist or basket and so on. The list of websites and categories (such as Social, News, Shopping etc) is continuing to grow, but the major websites for each category are already included. And no, no sensitive data is captured.

As the Swash ecosystem expands, the data captured will vary depending on the new products and applications built on Swash core technology which allow people to opt-in to share more data and earn more value back.

Do you have a token burning plan to increase the token value and attract Investors?

Chloë:
Good question, so as demand for the SWASH token will increase alongside adoption of the network, the generated value will likely be used to balance the token supply, likely through periodical token burning. We have given this a lot of thought and it seems like a good solution.

How old is your project? What are the major plans ahead? Could you show us an image of your roadmap?

Chloë:
Swash is around 2 years old, launching at MozFest at the end of 2019. The major plans ahead are to develop the First Wave Solutions which will have the products and services built on Swash tech. These include:

  • Data Union: Optimising individual agency as a collective force by rewarding union members for the value of their data.
  • sIntelligence: Bringing unique insights to businesses across all industries through a customisable, comprehensive web-based platform.
  • sApps: Expanding the Swash ecosystem with the tools, community, and culture for building the next era of data solutions.
  • sCompute: Uniting innovation with access by making on-site data computation capabilities a reality.

Swash’s Roadmap

How important is it for you to be a part of the community? And, how can we collaborate or assist you with the project’s development?

Chloë:
Thanks for asking! Swash is a community-driven project that is centred around bringing value back to the masses — true to the ethos of web 3. Swash is only successful if our users are successful, so community is the most important aspect!

The best way to support Swash is to install the app to join the other 60K+ people within the Swash Data Union and to help spread the word! An easy way to do this is to follow our social channels and reshare our content.

What are the key milestones on your roadmap — both things you have already achieved and things that we can look forward to? Any partnerships and short/long-term technical milestones that you want to talk about or bring some attention to?

Chloë:
The key milestones are to build out the products and services as mentioned previously, and in terms of what we’ve already done, the biggest part is launching the Swash browser plug-in and growing the community.

We’re really proud to be working with some of the best minds in the space, including Chainlink, Ocean Protocol, Streamr, and Boson Protocol, to name a few! I highly recommend you check out this recent blog post we shared where we introduce our partners and the work we do together: https://medium.com/swashapp/introducing-swashs-all-star-backers-eff650f5bef2
