Summer at Swash — What’s going on?
We’re excited to announce that SwashData Tech Oy is now a Nordic company officially registered in Helsinki, Finland. We decided to move from Turkey to Finland to comply with EU law and to get closer to the market here, helping us reach investors, the tech ecosystem, and other key stakeholders.
Our team is still global, with contributors in Belgium, Canada, the UK, and Turkey, but everything else is now in Finland. If you’re around, come and say hi.
Speaking of the team, Swash has grown! We gained marketing support in mid-July and have since reworked our website, increased our branding and outreach, and kickstarted our social presence. It’s been a lot of fun so far, but we’re just getting started.
In May, we were selected out of 270 companies to join the Outlier Ventures Accelerator programme. They’ve been supporting us in getting things ready to raise funds and to continue growing Swash. The advice, workshops, meetings, mentors, and feedback have been great so far, and we’re making sure to put it to good use.
As part of Outlier Ventures, we’ll also be at Diffusion Digital with a host of other cool Web3 and blockchain projects.
Our panel, The Role of Data Unions, is happening on the 16th September at 3.30 pm.
Swash CEO, Reza Naeeni, will be joined by:
Ioana Surpateanu, Co-Head of EU Govt Affairs/ Innovation Strategy Lead at Citi
Matt Prewitt, President at RadicalxChange Foundation
Shiv Malik, Head of Growth at Streamr
Moderated by Matt Law, Partner at Outlier Ventures
Followed by a live Q&A!
Finally, spread the word about Swash by sharing this short video:
The bigger the community, the more value returned!
Now, when your friends install Swash using your referral URL, you’ll be rewarded 1 DATA for every new installation.
On top of that, when your referred friends reach their first 10 DATA, you’ll receive another 1 DATA!
We’re working to a limited budget, so this is for a maximum of 100K DATA. The referral program will be ready after the new release, so watch this space.
We’ve simplified Swash to make it quicker and more enjoyable to use. Instead of having to tweak the settings that determine which domains Swash captures, it’s all automated for you.
Following the results of user research conducted earlier this year, we’ve been taking steps to improve the user experience of Swash. We want to make sure that Swash is comfortable for a wide audience to use which is why we’ve reduced the number of settings and placed everyone on an automatic level of security, making the entire experience simpler and smoother.
For data buyers, this update will mean the Swash data set is less fragmented, increasing usability without compromising on data quality or the security of Swash users.
We received unique advice from an industry expert who carried out an independent assessment of Swash, resulting in a business development report outlining the specific steps we should take to advance the success of Swash with data buyers.
This advice underlined the importance of creating a less-fragmented data set, achieved by asking for the basic demographics of our users (so, gender, age, and income range), as well as exploring the different ways we can present data to data buyers, through analytics or visualisations.
We’ve also been working closely with product development experts and business mentors to work through these changes properly, making sure Swash is positioned properly in the market and ready to scale.
Also, by having an increased global privacy level for all Swash users by default, we’re able to make sure that no gaps are left where security risks can slip through. As a result, the data pooled within the Data Union will be less fragmented and more useful for data buyers, further increasing the value for Swash users.
We’ve also made it easier to withdraw your earnings. By adding extra step-by-step support and walkthrough video tutorials to help you out, we’re doing what we can to make Swash more accessible for everyone.
The numbers you see in your wallet will be clearer too. All you’ll see are your earnings from surfing, your referral bonus, and your total balance.
We’re already compatible with Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Brave.
The newest version of Swash will also be compatible with Kiwi and Yandex. They’re both chromium-based browsers on the Android platform. If you use either of them, welcome to the party!
All browsers will now include many more domains from a bunch of new categories, including music, news, fashion, travel, and beauty. We’re adding 80 of the most famous domains from those industries, allowing you to earn even more as you browse.
When you reach a certain number of tokens, we’ll pay the transaction fee for you when you go to withdraw your earnings. This amount isn’t fixed as it depends on the DATA to ETH conversion rate, which varies.
We’ll make sure all requests to join Swash go through a captcha to prevent any bots from infiltrating the Swash community. Captcha is a simple but effective step towards preventing bots with more precautions to come.
When you install Swash, we’ll ask you to share some general information needed to understand the demographic of Swash’s users. This tells the data buyers about our community and proves how valuable our Data Union is, meaning Swash users get more return for their contributions.
None of this information can be used to identify you. It will just be shown in simple reports on the website that are open to the public, telling the world a bit more about the Swash community and why our Data Union is so valuable.
These are just some of the new things we’ve been working on, with many more to come. Our current focus is on raising funds and increasing the number of Swash users so, if you’re a fan, please spread the word and help us to build a better, more dignified internet.
Swash launched at the end of 2019 as the world’s first digital Data Union. We’re set on redesigning the data economy to work better for everyone and to create a better internet.
We believe this is only possible by rewarding the data creators (yes, that means you) for the value they generate online and by recognising every internet user as an integral part of the data economy.
Swash makes it possible for everyone to profit from their data, ultimately refining how data is collected and valued, with the goal of accelerating change and redefining our digital ecosystem.
