As Swash reaches a quarter of a million instals, it’s time to venture further and onboard new audiences to keep growing the Swash Data Union and to bring the next billion people to Web 3.
But, how is this going to happen?
With the launch of Swash’s Data for Good!
Data for Good is a donations feature available within the Swash app which enables members to automatically donate the value of their data to a social good organisation of their choice. It’s now live and available to all Swash Data Union members.
So, how does it work?
Keep scrolling for a detailed overview, but it’s as simple as:
- Choose a charity to donate to from the list
- Select what percentage of your earnings you want to donate and how often
- Surf the web as normal!
The best part is, Data for Good is designed to be simple and easy to use, meaning you don’t have to worry about how to withdraw your earnings, navigating complicated UX, or paying $$$$ for pricey gas fees. All you have to do is find a cause you want to support then go about your day as usual.
What’s more, by donating to charities using Data for Good, you also invoke a matched donation from Swash and a Data for Good token burn!
Why Data for Good, and why now?
Data for Good is inspired by the likes of Ecosia, the search engine which plants trees with the value of advertising spend, and other audacious clicktivist internet movements like Sleepify and Views for a Vision. It allows for passive donations to leading causes, including the likes of Unicef, Save the Children, and Oxfam.
When Ecosia has over 15 million users, and clicktivist acts attract millions of people with tens of thousands raised for their cause, Swash’s Data for Good feature is well-positioned to put people power to work in an unprecedented way.
Data for Good is a huge endeavour and will evolve over time. It will also continue to grow as we expect to continue onboarding new socially-driven organisations, reflect the impact the Swash community makes, and see more causes adopt cryptocurrencies as a donation method.
How to Donate
Once installed, Swash allows people to earn for the value of their data as they browse, without having to do anything differently. This ease of use is crucial for adoption which is why the donations feature should be equally as frictionless.
The Data for Good feature allows you to search and browse the list of charities, filter by relevant tags, and determine whether you want to make a one-off donation or set up a recurring one with a percentage of your Swash earnings each month.
Making a One-off Donation
- Go to the Swash app
- On the side bar, click ‘Donations’
- Use the search bar to find a cause to support
- Once you have selected a charity, click ‘Donate’
- A popup will appear giving you the option to make a ‘One-off Donation’ or an ‘Ongoing Donation’. Select ‘One-off Donation’.
- You’ll be able to see your available balance and the option to add a specific Donation Amount. Add your desired amount, then click ‘Next’
- You’ll then be presented with a summary of your donation. Click ‘Confirm’ if you’re happy to make the donation, or the back arrow if you want to make some changes.
Setting up an Ongoing Donation
- Go to the Swash app
- On the side bar, click ‘Donations’
- Use the search bar to find a cause to support
- Once you have selected a charity, click ‘Donate’
- A popup will appear giving you the option to make a ‘One-off Donation’ or an ‘Ongoing Donation’.
- Switch the toggle to ‘Ongoing Donation’. You’ll be able to see your available balance and a range of percentages.
- Select the percentage you want to donate per day and press ‘Next’. For example, if you want to donate 50% of your earnings and you earn 5 SWASH per day, you will donate 2.5 SWASH per day.
- You’ll then be presented with a summary of your donation. Click ‘Confirm’ if you’re happy to make the donation, or the back arrow if you want to make some changes.
- You will be able to monitor your ongoing donations on the Donations page. Remember, you are free to cancel your ongoing donations at any time.
Introducing Data for Good gives Swash’s Data Union members another avenue to put the value of their data to use. Data for Good brings philanthropy into Web 3, making it easier than ever to make a positive impact, whether you’re fluent in crypto or not.
Let’s make a difference, grow the community, and change the paradigm, one click at a time.
Together we rise.
