Swash Announces Integration of Filecoin Decentralised Storage Network to Preserve and Protect Consumer Data

Swash, the world’s first and largest Data Union, is pleased to announce a new integration with the Filecoin network, a decentralised storage network designed to store humanity’s most important information. With this integration, Swash will leverage Estuary, a solution that allows developers to easily upload data to Filecoin, to integrate decentralised storage for preserving Swash users’ web browser activity. With users’ data stored on a decentralised network, this integration will provide users with greater ownership over their personal browsing data.

Cisco predicts that by 2022, internet protocol (IP) traffic will surpass all prior “internet years” up to 2016 combined. Additionally, as internet traffic is multiplying, there are two trends developing in parallel. Consumer insights are becoming increasingly sought after–to inform everything from consumer engagement to product development. Yet, consumers are becoming aware of how valuable their data is and deliberate about how and where they share that data.

This means that websites will stay up even if some nodes fail, and most importantly, the availability of information is not dependent on any one server or company.

Robustness: Filecoin’s blockchain verifies storage of data, providing cryptographic proofs guarantee that data remains available and unchanged over time, meaning there is redundancy built into the system.

Efficiency: By allowing anyone to participate as a storage provider and compete for business, Filecoin network storage is much more cost-effective than traditional storage providers. It costs only 0.02% of the cost of storing the same data using Amazon S3.
