Swash DAO now live!
Have your say in the future of Swash.
Welcome to the Swash DAO!
With the DAO Ignition campaign having come to an end, we’re excited to announce that the long awaited Swash DAO is now live!
As outlined in our previous blog, everyone who participated in the DAO Ignition campaign and successfully met the criteria of the DAO Ignition campaign has automatically been granted Early Bird Swash DAO membership, giving them the opportunity to vote on community, development, and token-related proposals, opening Swash up to more opportunities.
Understanding the DAO
Before you start, it’s important to understand the different terms used within the Swash DAO:
Voting strategy:
This determines whether a proposal is open for reputation-based voting or token-based voting, or another type of voting strategy introduced in future.
Voter eligibility:
This refers to who gets to vote on any given proposal. The criteria for reputation-based voting is different to the criteria for token-based voting. For details, refer to the section on voter eligibility below.
Proposal types:
Each proposal has different purposes, affecting different areas of Swash. These include community, development, and token-related proposals.
Voting system:
Voting systems represent the method used to calculate the results of a vote on the basis of the voting power. For example, the most common option where you vote on only one option is known as ‘single-choice voting’, but another way would be to include votes spread over multiple options, known as ‘weighted voting’.
Each of these areas can evolve over time, meaning new opportunities for taking part in the DAO, types of areas you can influence, and voting in different ways can be introduced.
How to take part: Understanding voter eligibility
Reputation-based voting
All qualified participants from the DAO Ignition campaign are now whitelisted for reputation-based voting. Also, each month, you can also get whitelisted for reputation-based voting if you are noted as one of the community’s most active members across Swash’s social media channels. With this voting eligibility option, all voters carry the same weight.
Token-based voting
As we are using Snapshot, the amount of tokens you hold on the date a token-based proposal goes live is what determines your voting power. The weight of your vote depends on the amount of tokens you hold, so the more tokens you hold on that go-live date, the higher your weight when voting.
On February 25 2023, several token-based proposals will go live, ready for you to cast your vote. These proposals are ideas gathered from the community and suggested development deliverables.
What you can vote on
The type of proposals you can vote on will vary, with different types of proposals being introduced over time. To begin, the different proposal types include:
- Development proposals from the team
- Development proposals from third-party developers
- Community-related proposals
- Token-related proposals
For more details on each proposal, be sure to check out each proposal description as proposals go live. You can also join the dedicated channels for proposals on Swash’s Discord.
Examples of different types of proposals
Reputation-based:
Title: Close the Swash Telegram and completely migrate the community to Discord
Description:
Now that the Swash Discord channel has been created, all community support and discussions should happen there. The Swash Telegram chat is crowded and it is difficult to organise groups and keep track of updates. The community is already more active on Discord and different events like competitions and AMAs will be easier to host on Discord as well.
Voting strategy: Reputation-based
Discussion: Join the live Discord discussion
Voting type: Single choice voting
Options:
1 - Close Telegram and only use Discord
2 - Keep Telegram and Discord
Start and end of voting period: 16 Feb 2023 – 16 March 2023
—
Token-based:
Title: Create an opt-in ad blocker feature for the Swash extension
Description: Once developed as part of the Swash extension, the adblocker feature will stop all ads while you surf. Users can choose to turn this feature on or off via the Swash extension. Combined with the sAds feature, users will then be able to choose to see only the ads they get paid for. The ad blocker feature will be in the form of a toggle in the extension settings or a pop up menu.
Voting strategy: Token-based
Discussion: Link available on the DAO page when live
Voting type: Single choice voting
List of choices:
1 - Develop an ad blocker feature
2 - Do not develop an ad blocker feature
Start and end of voting period: 25 Feb 2023 – 25 March 2023
