Swash Spotlight Series: Matt Law — Swash Advisor

Swash is booming, with the new ambassador program, the DAO Ignition campaign, new partnerships, and ecosystem growth.

This month’s Spotlight Series edition unveils one of the all-star advisors helping Swash in key moments as its IDO, launching the renewed Swash App, supporting with product strategy, and more.

Meet Matt Law, an experienced founder and crypto venture capitalist, working to bring to light transformational companies in the fields of Web 3, crypto, tokenisation, dCommerce, and more.

Introducing Matt Law, Swash Advisor

Matt has deep experience helping Web 3 startups reach mainstream adoption as a Partner at Outlier Ventures, the leading crypto early-stage accelerator firm in the UK.

The Swash team met Matt while going through Outlier’s startup acceleration program, becoming a key partner in the movement’s growth.

Matt also has experience as an operator in crypto startups, working as a strategy advisor at Boson Protocol and Growth at Fetch.ai.

This week, Swash is happy to introduce the world to Matt’s thoughts on data, crypto, Swash, and the decentralised future.

Here are the highlights

Matt has identified a long-term trend, continuing in today’s world, in the way people interact online and offline. Matt believes in the “software is eating the world” thesis triggered by Andreessen Horowitz and “how automation is impacting different parts of our society.”

For Matt, crypto applications, Web 3, and software at large are replacing the roles that companies and governments used to hold on “how different participants in an ecosystem create and get value.”

That idea goes towards the rise of decentralisation, offsetting intermediaries across sectors while giving people more agency.

Digital sovereignty for individuals in a new connected world

That is what Swash is doing: “Giving power back to people with the data that everybody creates.”

Matt has seen the transformation in how data is captured and valued since the rise of the World Wide Web and the emergence of social media platforms.

This technological shift led to creating “huge amounts of value for people, things that you wouldn’t have even considered to be possible.” However, monopolies like Facebook and Google captured most of the value.

An enormous opportunity for individual data agency to become a reality

Even though there’s a value exchange between Web 2 products and people, the opportunity for data-conscious tools to make an impact is much bigger.

Today, with tools like Swash, “people can take control back, get sovereignty of their data; the data they create.” Data Unions and DAOs are pooling together the value of shared data and benefit individuals, advertisers, and marketers.

Matt envisions the projects tapping into it becoming “successful over time“ as decentralised data economy is “a huge opportunity.”
